Website chat

A chat thatknows your site.

Add a chat to your website. It answers visitors from your pages, posts, docs, and products, and hands them to your team when they want a person.

  1. 01

    It answers from your site.

Choose what the AI reads: pages, blog posts, docs, products, and your own instructions. When it isn't sure, it says so.

  2. 02

    A person takes over.

Visitors can ask for a person at any time. The chat lands in your inbox, and whoever replies takes it from the AI.

  3. 03

    See what it handled.

Reports show chats the AI handled alone, the hand-off rate, your first reply time, and questions your site couldn't answer.

Keep the answers right

Better pages, better answers.

The chat answers from what's published on your site. Fix a page yourself, or ask Lumi or Claude to update it, and the chat uses the new version once it's published.

Answer what visitors asked

Reports list the questions your site couldn't answer. Add the answer to the right page and publish it.

Tell the agent what visitors keep asking. It adds the answer to the right page for you.

Questions

About website chat.

Where do the AI's answers come from?

From your published pages, blog posts, docs, and products, plus any instructions you add. You can turn each source off. When your site doesn't cover a question, the AI says it isn't sure.

How does a visitor reach a person?

In the AI, then a person mode, visitors can tap Talk to a person at any time. The chat shows up in your Live chat inbox, and when someone on your team replies, the AI stops answering that chat.

What happens when nobody is online?

Visitors leave a message with their email. You get an email about it, and when you reply, the visitor gets your reply by email with a link to continue the chat.

When does the chat ask for an email?

You choose: before the chat starts, only when a visitor asks for a person, or never, except when they leave a message.

How will I know a chat needs me?

While BrightSite is open, you get a badge on the bell, a pop-up, a sound, and a browser notification. Messages left while nobody was available also arrive by email. There's no mobile app or push notification.

Does it cost extra?

No. Chat is on every plan, isn't metered, and has no per-plan limits. On Scale you can remove the Powered by BrightSite badge.
