Topping up AI credits

Your AI wallet pays for Lumi: how to check the balance, add funds, set up auto-reload, and what happens when it runs out.

Lumi, the AI assistant built into BrightSite, is paid for out of an AI wallet, a prepaid dollar balance that belongs to your account. This page covers what the wallet pays for, how to top it up, how to set up auto-reload, and what happens when it runs out.

You are spending real money here, so nothing is charged without you choosing an amount first.

What the AI wallet pays for

The wallet has a single job: it pays for Lumi, the AI chat inside BrightSite. Every time Lumi answers you, the cost of that answer is deducted from your balance.

Some things it does not pay for:

  • Connecting your own AI tool. If you connect Claude, Cursor, or another AI tool to your site through BrightSite's AI connection, that tool runs on your own subscription with that provider. Those conversations never touch your BrightSite wallet.
  • Your BrightSite plan. Your subscription and your AI wallet are billed separately. Topping up the wallet does not change your plan, and paying your plan does not add AI credit.

The wallet balance is shared across everyone on your account. If a teammate uses Lumi, it comes out of the same pot.

Checking your balance

Go to Settings → Billing and open the AI wallet tab. At the top you will see:

  • Current balance: what you have left to spend.
  • Lifetime: the total you have ever topped up, and the total you have used, side by side.

The AI wallet tab only appears if AI chat is available on your account.

For a breakdown of where the money went, go to Settings → Billing → AI Usage & Access. The Usage History tab charts your spend over time, grouped by hour, day, week or month, and you can filter it to a single team member. The User Access tab lets you switch AI chat off for individual people; everyone is allowed by default.

Topping up

On the AI wallet tab you will see a row of preset top-up buttons. Click one and that amount is charged to your card and added to your balance immediately.

To add a different amount, type it into the Custom amount box and click Add custom. Custom top-ups have a minimum. If you enter less than the minimum, BrightSite tells you rather than charging you.

If you have no card saved yet, a note on the page says so. Pick an amount anyway: BrightSite asks for card details as part of that first top-up, and the credit lands as soon as the payment goes through.

Auto-reload

Auto-reload tops your wallet up on its own so Lumi does not stop mid-job. It is off unless you turn it on.

On the AI wallet tab, find the Auto-reload card and flick the switch on. Two boxes appear:

  • Reload when balance drops below: the trigger point.
  • Reload amount: how much to add each time it fires.

Set both and click Save. Auto-reload needs a card of its own on file. If you have not added one, the same card shows an Add payment method for auto-reload link. Once it is saved the card reads Payment method saved.

The top-up fires after a Lumi conversation brings your balance to or below the trigger point. If the charge fails, an expired card for instance, BrightSite emails you so you can fix it before you run dry.

When the balance runs out

If your balance reaches zero, Lumi stops answering until you top up. Nothing else about your site is affected: your pages stay published, your forms keep collecting, your analytics keep recording. Only AI chat pauses.

Adding funds brings it straight back. You do not need to reload the page or start a new conversation.
