Contacts live under Email → Contacts. Each contact has an email address, first and last name, tags, where they came from, a status, and a record of how they gave consent.

Statuses

  • Subscribed: receives campaigns.
  • Pending: signed up but hasn't confirmed yet (see double opt-in in Collecting signups).
  • Unsubscribed, Bounced, Complained: don't receive campaigns.

Adding contacts

  • Add contact adds one person. You confirm they agreed to receive email.
  • Import CSV brings in up to 50,000 rows from a file up to 5 MB. Email, first name, last name, and tags columns are matched automatically. You can tag everyone in the import, and you confirm they agreed to receive email. An import never resubscribes someone who unsubscribed.
  • Import store customers adds every store customer who accepts marketing email.

Moving from Mailchimp

Export your audience from Mailchimp as a CSV and import it here. There is no direct connection to a Mailchimp account. To reuse a Mailchimp email design, paste its HTML into a code email. See Coding your own email.

Working with contacts

  • Filter the list, then tag, unsubscribe, or delete the selected contacts in bulk.
  • Export downloads the filtered list as a CSV.
  • Open a contact to see their profile, consent record (when, how, from which form), and activity: sent, delivered, opened, clicked, and bounced.

Tags can be up to 50 characters, and a contact can have up to 50 tags. There are no custom fields.

Addresses that hard bounce or mark an email as spam are suppressed for good, even if you delete and re-add the contact.
