Rank tracker

Track where your keywords rank on Google every day, on mobile and desktop, with competitors and search features.

On this page

The rank tracker checks where your site ranks on Google for the keywords you choose, and keeps the history. Find it under SEO → Rank tracker. It is included on every plan.

Setting up

Click New project and fill in four sections:

  • Project: a name for the project.
  • Where to search from: a country, state, city, or ZIP code. Results are checked as if someone searched from there. Each project searches from one place.
  • Keywords: one per line. Add tags after a bar, like coffee catering | catering, or let AI suggest keywords from your site.
  • Competitors (optional): up to 10 competitor domains. They cost nothing extra.

Every domain your site answers on counts as yours, so there is no domain to enter.

Mobile and desktop

Every keyword is checked on mobile. Tick Also check on desktop for a keyword to check it on desktop too. A keyword checked on both counts twice toward your limit.

When checks run

  • Daily or weekly, at the day, time, and time zone you set under Check schedule. The default is daily at 6:00 AM.
  • Check now runs a check right away, up to twice a day per project.
  • Google's top 100 results are searched. A keyword that isn't in the top 100 is rechecked weekly until it shows up again.
  • Pausing keeps your schedule. Check now still works while paused.

Reading the results

  • Overview: visibility, average position, estimated clicks a month, and how many keywords are in the top 10, plus a chart over time, your biggest moves, and the search features that appear.
  • Keywords: every keyword with its position, change, and a sparkline. Filter by tag or position, or show only keywords where more than one of your pages ranks.
  • Competitors: share of voice over time and competitors' positions wherever they reach the top 10.

Open a keyword to see its position history (including when the ranking page changed), Google's current top 10, and which search features appear. The rank tracker tracks 20 features, including AI Overviews, the local pack, featured snippets, and People also ask, and shows whether your site appears in each.

Each keyword also shows its monthly search volume, difficulty, cost per click, and intent, refreshed every 30 days. If a local rankings campaign tracks the same search, the keyword shows its Google Maps rank too.

Using an agent

Lumi, Claude, and ChatGPT can summarize your rankings, list keywords, add and remove keywords, turn desktop on or off, run a check, and change project settings. They ask before making changes. Projects themselves are created in BrightSite.
