Setting up takes a few steps. The store's Home page shows a checklist, Your shop is not taking orders yet, until every step is done.

1. Turn on the store

Switch the top of the sidebar from Website to Store, then click Turn on store. The page lists what you get and the BrightSite fee on your plan. Click Turn on store, then confirm.

If your site already has pages or redirects at /products, /collections, or /cart, the page warns you first. Redirects on those paths are removed when the store turns on.

Turning on the store needs permission to edit store settings. Admins have it. See Roles and permissions.

2. Confirm your shop details

Store settings are under Settings → Store. On the Payments tab, fill in Shop name, Country, and Currency, then click Confirm details. Country and currency can't be changed later.

Supported currencies are USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, AUD, NZD, CHF, SEK, NOK, DKK, PLN, CZK, SGD, and HKD.

3. Connect Stripe

Payments go to your own Stripe account. You set it up inside BrightSite, without leaving the app.

  1. On the Payments tab, click Connect Stripe.
  2. Answer Stripe's questions in the Set up payments panel. Stripe verifies your business and where to send your payouts. Your answers go straight to Stripe.
  3. If you stop partway, click Finish Stripe setup to continue.

The tab shows whether Charges and Payouts are enabled, and anything Stripe still needs. Checkout can't take orders until Stripe enables charges.

The Payments page in the store menu shows your balance and payouts, business and bank details, and tax documents. It's also where you set up your domain for Apple Pay and Google Pay.

4. Choose payment methods

The Payment methods section on the Payments tab lists what shoppers can use:

  • Cards are always accepted.
  • Link, Apple Pay, and Google Pay are on by default.
  • Klarna, Cash App Pay, and US bank account (ACH) are off until you turn them on. They send the shopper to another site to finish paying, then back to your shop.

Only methods your Stripe account and currency support are offered. Cash App Pay and ACH work in USD only. See Checkout and payments.

5. Set up tax and delivery

On the Tax tab, choose how tax is collected. On the Delivery tab, add shipping zones and rates for physical products. See Shipping and tax.

6. Write your policies

Open Policies in the store menu. There are four: Refund, Shipping, Privacy, and Terms. Click Start from a draft to get a version written from your store's details, edit it, and click Save.

Drafts are a starting point, not legal advice. Saved policies are linked at checkout, on order pages, and in order emails.

7. Turn on checkout

On the General tab, click Turn on checkout. You can turn it off again at any time. While checkout is off, shoppers can browse but not buy.

The General tab also sets your shop name, your store time zone, and whether shoppers can leave product reviews.
