Shoppers pay on a checkout page on your own site, at /checkout. Payments go to your Stripe account.
The checkout page
Checkout has these sections:
- Contact: the shopper's email, with an optional box to get marketing email from you.
- Shipping address, for physical products.
- Delivery method: the shipping rates that apply to the address.
- Payment: express buttons such as Apple Pay and Google Pay first, then Or pay with card.
- Order summary.
The button reads Pay with the amount. When a gift card covers the whole order, it reads Place order.
Shoppers enter discount codes on the cart page or in the cart drawer, and gift card codes on the cart page. One gift card can be used per order.
Accounts
Guests can always check out. Shoppers can create an account after checkout to see their orders later.
Payment methods
| Method | Default |
|---|---|
| Cards | Always on |
| Link, Apple Pay, Google Pay | On |
| Klarna, Cash App Pay, US bank account (ACH) | Off |
Change them in Settings → Store → Payments. Only methods your Stripe account supports are offered. Cash App Pay and ACH work in USD only.
Apple Pay and Google Pay need your domain set up with Stripe. Open Payments in the store menu and click Set up next to your domain.
Fees
Stripe charges its processing fees on each payment. On Launch, BrightSite adds a 1% fee on each sale. Grow and Scale have no BrightSite fee. Both fees are deducted by Stripe before your payout. See Store for how the fee works with gift cards and refunds.
When checkout isn't taking orders
Checkout stops taking orders when:
- Stripe hasn't enabled charges yet.
- Tax hasn't been set up.
- Checkout is turned off on the General tab.
- Your subscription has ended.
Shoppers see "This shop is not taking orders yet." The store's Home page shows what's missing.
