Both are set in Settings → Store: shipping on the Delivery tab, tax on the Tax tab.
Shipping zones
A zone is a set of places you ship to. Click Add zone and give it a Zone name and the Countries it covers. You can narrow a zone to States or provinces or Postcodes, or use Rest of the world for everywhere else.
Shipping rates
Each zone has one or more rates. Click Add rate and choose how it's priced:
- Flat: one price.
- Free.
- By weight.
- By order value.
Free above makes a rate free over an order amount. Only offer from hides a rate below an order amount. Shoppers see the rates that match their address at checkout.
Digital products, donations, and gift cards don't need shipping.
Tax
Choose one:
- Not collecting tax: you aren't required to charge tax.
- Manual rates: enter your own rates per country or state. Click Add rate and fill in Rate name, Country, State or province, and Rate (%). Tick Also tax shipping to tax shipping too.
You need to choose one before checkout can be turned on. BrightSite doesn't decide where you're registered or file returns for you.
Prices include tax is for VAT-style pricing, where the price you enter is what the shopper pays. Leave it off for US-style pricing, where tax is added at checkout.
Each product has Charge tax on this product, so you can leave tax off items that are exempt.

Add a 5.5% sales tax rate for Maine, including shipping.
