Local rankings shows where your business appears in Google Maps results across the area you serve. Someone searching nearby sees different results than someone across town, so BrightSite checks your rank at each point on a grid. Find it under SEO → Local search. It is included on every plan.
Setting up a campaign
- Find your business: search Google Maps and pick your listing. Ranks are matched to that listing, not to the business name.
- What do your customers search for?: type keywords or pick from AI suggestions.
- Pick the area to check: start from Neighborhood (7×7, 0.5 mi apart), City (7×7, 1 mi), or Region (9×9, 3 mi), or set the grid size and the distance between points yourself, up to 10 miles. Choose a square or circle, drag the center, switch points off, and leave water points skipped.
- Pick when to scan: weekly, every other week, or monthly, on a day and time you choose. Then click Start tracking.
The first scan starts as soon as the campaign is created. Scans use desktop Google Maps results in English.
Scans and rescans
- Scheduled scans cover every keyword in the campaign.
- New keywords are scanned right away and don't use a rescan.
- Rescan runs one keyword immediately and uses one rescan from your monthly allowance. Grow includes 10 a month and Scale 20. The count resets on the 1st.
- Pausing keeps the schedule, and rescans still work.
Reading the results
- The map shows your rank at each point: 1 to 3 in green, 4 to 10 in amber, 11 to 20 in red, and gray where you don't appear.
- Average rank counts points where you don't appear as 21. Points in the top 3 and Points where you appear (rank 1 to 20) show how much of the area you cover.
- History shows a trend line and past scans you can open.
- Competitors lists up to 20 businesses with their top 3 count, average rank, and rating. Pick one to redraw the map with its ranks, at no extra cost.
Individual point results are kept for 13 months. Scan summaries are kept longer.
